Testimonials

As a result of a car accident our daughter received a closed-head injury. As part of her therapy we used Vision Therapy to help her regain her eye muscle strength to help her with visual scanning. We were very pleased with the speed of recovery.

About Us

Vision means so much more than eyesight. 20/20 is simply the ability to see at one distance. Beyond 20/20 is the ability to control eye movements, to avoid double vision, to focus over a period of time, and to focus closely for reading and studying. All of these areas will be considered during a routine eye examination. In some cases, we find that a child simply needs a pair of glasses.

We believe in the total child, so while our expertise is in children's vision and learning, we will evaluate and treat your child's vision-related learning problems in the context of his or her total self. Your child's therapy program therefore, will be comprehensive; will integrate his or her skills with other learning skills; and will be addressed in the private consultation.

What Is Vision Therapy?

Approximately 25% to 30% of all children and young adults have eye-teaming problems significant enough to cause difficulty in their daily lives, including school work and sports activities.

Many "behavioral" issues such as A.D.D., Dyslexia, and a general disinterest in school can be linked to vision problems.

The Vision Therapy Evaluation

A vision therapy evaluation will be performed based on the initial vision examination finding that your child has a vision problem that cannot be successfully treated with glasses. The evaluation includes a private consultation to review the test results with both parents to design an individualized program of therapy. We are able to treat all areas that we test. The evaluation will take approximately 90 minutes and will consist of the following:

  1. Oculomotor Dysfunction - eye movements necessary for reading without skipping words or losing one's place, and eye movements needed for attention without distraction.
  2. Reversal Frequency - to determine if your child can identify letters facing in the right or wrong direction, relating to laterality and directionality.
  3. Visualization - the ability to solve problems and organize mentally, to create scenes in your mind. This skill enables you to have reading comprehension, consistent handwriting, plan projects, and remember instructions.
  4. Visual Motor Integration - this copy form test for eye-hand coordination, relating to handwriting skills, will detail accuracy, speed, and perceptual skills.
  5. Visual Memory - the ability to remember what you see necessary for spelling, sight, words, and time tables.
"We are limited, not by our abilities, but by our vision."
